Finally ‘Chinese Democracy’ is Here
Back in March Dr. Pepper promised a free can of the soft drink should Guns N' Roses issue its delayed LP “Chinese Democracy” before the close of 2008. So guess what? I guess my next hit of caffeine will be free, courtesy of Dr. Pepper. The actual release of "Chinese Democracy" has been scheduled for November 23 so it looks like they’re going to end up giving away a lot of soda pop. Not that it's my favorite soda but hey it's a freebie and the way the economy is, every little bit helps. Plus, come on dude they've been working on that album for like over 14 years or so.
But the question lingers though. Will Dr.Pepper scheme ruffle some feathers among the Chinese top officials by embracing the politically charged titled of the album? I'd think it would especially in the eyes of Chinese top dogs. Of course for those of us in the land of the free it seems like a pretty cool campaign. But doesn't Dr. Pepper and Guns N Roses want every Chinese to 'be a Pepper by drinking Dr. Pepper'?. I wonder what kind of marketing scheme can be next. I am thinking…free Dr. Pepper for when our President decides to ratify the Kyoto Protocol. Hey maybe Obama will finally give the green light to the ratification. That'd make him the perfect Dr. Pepper's CMO (Chief Marketing Officer). After all and based on a report issued by the US Energy Administration, we are the largest per capita emitter of carbon dioxide from the burning of fossil fuels.
Ok so let's get back to the music though. As for the tracks the album brings Chinese Democracy will be featuring 14 songs, including "Scraped," "Shackler's Revenge" (which appears on the new "Rock Band 2" video game), "Street of Dreams," "If the World" (which accompanies the closing credits of Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe's "Body of Lies") and "This I Love." BTW, the last track is titled ‘Prostitute’. I wonder if that one is dedicated to Hugh Grant and Eliot Spitzer. Sorry I just couldn’t help it.
So for all of you who want to 'be a Pepper drinking Dr. Pepper' the company's plan is to distribute free cans of its product through an online coupon system. "People will go on Dr Pepper's Web site and we will send them a coupon for a free one," a Dr. Pepper spokesperson confirmed. "It's going to be real easy." Well, I guess we just hope the Dr. Pepper website doesn't crash starting on Sunday. Nah, I am sure they'll be prepared for that. Although the ultimate litmus test will be whether or not ex Guns N Roses members Slash and Buckethead will also get their free Dr. Pepper. I read somewhere that Axl Rose is actually willing to share his Dr. Pepper with Buckethead since he kinda helped out with the album before he left the band. That's nice of you, Axl.
Alright brethren…gotta go get ready for the weekend. Peace, love and recycle!
