The Tokio Hotel Machine

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

OK so Tokio Hotel is pretty much a sort of phenomenon among the bubblegum generation not only in Germany, but also across Europe. The band are lead singer/ songwriter Bill has been singing and writing lyrics since he was nine. His twin brother Tom has played the guitar for 6 years. Reportedly, in 2001, Bill & Tom met bassist Georg and drummer Gustav at a gig. They decided to form Tokio Hotel and immediately began working on songs. This debut album went to No. 1 in Germany and has sold 10 x Platinum. But real worldwide success doesn't come without globalization's de rigueur language: English. Needless to say, the Scream album has also been released in the language of Shakespeare.

Since then pretty much everything these kids sing has been turned into gold. Each of their first 5 singles hit Number 1 in Germany. In addition, Tokio Hotel debut tour was a 43 date sellout, playing to over 400,000 people. As for awards and accolades, the Echo Awards (Germany's equivalent of The Brits) named them "Best Newcomer 2005", MTV France pronounced them "Best Newcomer 2006", The World Music awards proclaimed them "Best Selling German Act 2006" and The European Border Breaker Awards declared them the "Best Selling German Act of 2006." Wow! by now these guys must have a head full of euro hot air. But how about on this side of the pond? Are they cutting it? Well, let's see in September, they actually won their first MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist. They also beat bands such as Metallica and Linkin Park. I guess that answers that question.

But I sorta have another one. Will these guys with their catchy pop anthems be around in 10 years from now? Perhaps they need to take a break or something. Overexposure is not always as sexy as conventional wisdom has it. I can't imagine being in their shoes and having to deal with a taxing schedule of appearances and touring all over the place. And on top of that, apparently in between tours they are also working on their third album scheduled to be release sometime in March or April 09. That's gotta be exhausting at some point. I am sure their fans don't want see them all burnt down at such a young age and at early phase of their careers. So, easy on the pop-rock sweatshop labor mentality guys. In showbiz as in life, it's not a sprint, but a marathon.

But, if you are into Tokio Hotel well we do have good news for you. We've got you covered. We bring you some of the newest tracks of the band for you to belt it out. Songs like "Scream" and "Ready, set, go" have to be part of your online karaoke portfolio. So, whatcha you waiting for? Get on the Tokio Hotel groove and start singing now!

Diana Ross “Surrender” Will Re-release on Dec. 9

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

These are definitely exciting times. Finally Diana's LP, "Surrender" will be re-released and hopefully this time it will get the r-e-s-p-e-c-t and kudos that it should have gotten in the 1970's. But that's not it. For those hardcore real Diana Ross fans, there are even 3 different tracks on "Remember Me". Two with Ms. Ross and the demo sang by Valerie Simpson.

Unequivocally, for all those fans of Diana Ross this is a wonderful Christmas present. The re-release of "Surrender" Expanded Edition is long overdue. It seems like finally the music gods are responding to the prayers of Diana Ross fans. The expanded and remastered edition of the 1971 album "Surrender" is already available for pre-order at Amazon.com. However, it will ship on December 9. If you can't wait, the digital download is already available. The CD and download contains the same tracks, although some sites list only the original 11 tracks. The complete track listing contains 20 tracks.

Last year, the 64 year old legendary entertainer and winner of 12 Grammy Awards was recognized for her achievements by President George W. Bush in the East Room of the White House Sunday during the Kennedy Center Gala Reception. And for those of you who are into trivia facts, here's one: Diana Ross is one of the few artists to have two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame–one as a solo artist and the other as a member of the trio "The Supremes." I bet you did not know that one.

So, we also want to honor the 'disco queen' with an assortment of karaokes that we've put together for you to remember those good ole days and boogie to the music of tracks such as Ain't No Mountain High Enough, I'm Coming Out, Stop In The Name of Love, Last Time I Saw Him and Reach Out and Touch. And for those of you who would like to share the spirit of Christmas music we also bring you Diana Ross version of Winter Wonderland. So what are you waiting for? Sing, sing, sing!

Brandy to Release “Human” on Dec. 9

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

Although young and with a lot of career runway ahead of her, Brandy has sold more than 25 million albums worldwide, and is one of the top selling female recording artists in Pop music history. So far, she has more than 100 awards worldwide. Pretty good if you consider she's only 28 and she's done it all- from R&B singer-songwriter to record producer, fashion model, actress and film producer. Not to mention the Grammy, MTV Awards and others she's taken home too.

After a four year hiatus, Brandy will release her 2008 debut album on Epic Records, entitled Human. Appparently, this is her most personal album to date. In a recent interview, Brandy explained, 'I have grown so much since my last album. Being able to express myself and my journey through my music is a feeling I can't describe.' So yeah we should be able to see a newly reinvented and evolved Brandy with this new production. "Human" features a side of Brandy no one has ever seen before and that definitely makes worth the wait.

The album's leading single, entitled "Right Here (Departed)," premiered on August 14, 2008 via Brandy's official website; while a second single, "Long Distance," was released to U.S. radio stations across the country in October 2008. With regards to the release of "Human", Brandy said, "I wanted to make it for everybody, not just urban but every race, every color, every creed, whatever." As for future plans, the songwriter and singer announced last Oct. 2 on New York radio station Hot 97 (WQHT) that she is planning on partnering with her brother Ray J for a collaborative album tentatively titled "R&B". I guess these two get along well and sibling rivalry is not an issue in the family.

So, we've got some Brandy karaokes for you to sing and practice in light of next week's release. So grab the mic and belt it out to the music of "Almost Doesn't Count" and "What About Us."

“Call and Response”: Maroon 5 New Remix

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

Call and Response: The Remix Album is the new title of the remix album scheduled for release on December 9 by the quintet Maroon 5. In essence, the album features remixes of hit singles and tracks from Maroon 5's first two studio album's "Songs About Jane" and "It Won't Be Soon Before Long" by various artists and producers such as 'If I Never See Your Face Again' -Swizz Beatz Remix,'Wake Up Call' -Mark Ronson Remix featuring Mary J. Blige, 'Sunday Morning' -Questlove Remix plus Just Blaze Remix, C. "Tricky" Stewart Remix, Pharrell Williams Remix, DJ Quick Remix, David Banner Remix, The Cool Kids Remix, Bloodshy & Avant Remix, Montreal Remix, 'Deerhoof Remix, Tiesto Remix, Ali Shaheed Muhammad & Doc Remix, Premier 5 Remix, Sam Farrar Remix and Cut Copy Galactic Beach House.

So yeah if you are into remixes and into the formulaic bubblegum pop, well then this is the stuff you've been waiting for. Although Montreal Remix and Deerhoof are actually Indie acts so in that sense there is a bit of newness and artsy-ness to Call and Response. Critics point out that Maroon 5 Adam Levine's anodyne vocals are fit to the remix genre. Well, let's see how this first remix album goes for these guys when they release it on December 9.

Coming from a Grammy Award-winning pop rock band, we expect the forthcoming album to be a seller especially among the bubblegum younger demo. Plus, the album features also remixes of hit singles and tracks from Maroon 5's first two studio album's "Songs About Jane" and "It Won't Be Soon Before Long". All that makes too familiar and safe as far as sales and acceptance among the general public.

In the meantime we invite you to start practicing Maroon 5 favs such as "If I Never See Your Face Again", "This Love", "She Will Be Loved", "Goodnight Goodnight" , "Wake Up Call", "Won't Go Home Without You", "Makes Me Wonder" and more.
