Annie Lennox Speaks Out About Gaza

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

In 1999 members of the rock industry and the VH1 show 100 Greatest Women of Rock and Roll selected Annie Lennox as "The Greatest White Soul Singer Alive". But that's not all, Rolling Stone magazine also named her as one of their 100 Greatest Singers of All Time. Both as a solo artist and with Eurythmics, Lennox has sold over 80 million records.

During the 80s, Annie Lennox focus went into making music. Apparently, when her children were born, she says, her priorities shifted. Now she devotes much of her time and energy to supporting different humanitarian causes. She says: “I need to find meaning in my life to make me happy; and that’s been an ongoing struggle.”

Nowadays, she's being politically acitve and involve in humanitarian work with UNICEF and the Treatment Action Campaign. Recently on her blog, she spoke out against the recent conflict in Gaza. “I am making a plea on behalf of innocent civilians. ALL innocent civilians on BOTH sides. Now that Israeli ground forces have entered Gaza, there is only one guarantee… ABSOLUTE CARNAGE.Those are definitely politically charged words.

As for current music work, "The Annie Lennox Collection" is the first greatest hits compilation by the singer-songwriter. The Greatest Hits album will be released on February 10, 2009. Among the newly recorded tracks are: "Shining Light", originally a single by Ash, and a cover of Keane's rare B-side "Closer Now", retitled "Pattern of My Life". The artwork was shot by rock singer Bryan Adams.

So why don't you check out our collection of Annie Lennox classics and start singing. We have tracks such as Sweet Dreams, Would I Lie to You, Here Comes the Rain Again, Love is a Stranger, No More I Love Yous, etc. Have fun!

ELO: Oldies but Goodies

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Electric Light Orchestra, a.k.a. as ELO is a Brit rock band that rose to the top during the golden age of rock back in the 70's and 80's. Similar to other big acts they were unable to keep themselves relevant and their popularity faded away into the 90's. However, they left us a great legacy familiar especially to those who listen to rock music from the 70's and 80's.

It wasn't until 1971 that ELO came together thanks to the trio Roy Wood, Jeff Lynne and Bev Bevan. The band was originally conceived as a side project of "The Move", a band roster with the same members. They were aiming at exploring the different fusions between rock and classic music. Not that they were the first ones doing this, but they actually manage to have have some trailblazing success among the general public.

Later on, "The Move" broke up and Roy Wood left the band due to apparent unreconcilable differences with Lynne and Bevan. ELO's first extravagant album tried mixing elements from symphonic rock and pop in a very unorthodox way. It wasn't until the release of "Elo II" that their music becomes more appealing and commercial to the masses. With "El dorado" (1974) the band had clearly defined a distinctive style and by the time "Face the Music" is released, Electric Light Orchestra had already consolidated some success. It was at this point in ELO's trajectory that the band went global.

But with the addition of new band members (Lynne, Bevan, Tandy, Groucutt, Kaminski, Gale y Mc. Dowell) and the release of the album "Out of the Blue" the band was ready for staging one of the most spectacular special effects seen in rock concerts. ELO started using a huge space ship stage and lots of fog machines and laser displays.

Up until the release of "Discovery", the band enjoyed of rotund success. However, due to contractual agreements the band had to go back to the studio and crank it out. The inevitable happened with the soundtrack of the movie "Xanadu" . The quality of ELO production was diluted and too commercial for the press and critics to the point that it was referred to as a commercial disaster.

So, in light of ELO's good ol' days, we've adde some classic rock karaokes for you to belt it out. We recommend "Ticket to the Moon". Enjoy singing it and have a splendid weekend.

Alice Cooper Classics

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

Not too bad for a rocker that has been around for about five decades. No kidding. I mean the dude has done it all. Musician, rock singer, songwriter the dude is all over the place. In fact, recently Alice Cooper released his 25th album entitled "Along Came a Spider" and so far it has been his highest charting album in his career. The album deals with the nefarious antics of a deranged serial killer named "Spider", who is on a quest to use the limbs of his victims to create a human spider. So Alice Cooper!

Last year, on an interview that Cooper himself conducted with Ozzy Osbourne on his radio show "Nights with Alice Cooper", the rock legend again affirmed his debt of gratitude to bands such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and The Who. In fact, during the interview, both Cooper and Osbourne, bemoaned the often inferior quality of songwriting coming from contemporary rock artists. In Cooper's words, the cause of the problem was that certain modern bands "had forgotten to listen to The Beatles."

Cooper's music and style are so unique that have even caught the attention of Catalan surrealist Salvador Dali, who on attending a show in 1973 described it as being surreal, and made a hologram entitled First Cylindric Chromo-Hologram Portrait of Alice Cooper's Brain.

At Red Karaoke, we have not forgotten the rock classics and therefore have put together a collection of Alice Cooper's classics for everyone to sing to. Tracks such as Poison, I'm Eighteen, You and Me, School's Out, No More Mr. Nice Guy, etc. So what are you waiting for? Rock on to the unique ghoulish and tongue-flicking style of Alice Cooper.

Jessica Simpson Back on Top

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

Rumor has it that she's done her lips. That they are a lot juicier. Did she have a nose job? A breast reduction? Way too many rumors, some more credible than others but the fact remains that every time the 28 year old singer-actress is sighted by the paparazzi she makes the news. As for her recent move to the country genre, Simpson's new single "Come on Over" has been referred by the Billboard Country Singles Chart as the “Highest Solo Charting Debut.”

No doubts about it. In fact, her "Do You Know" album debuted #1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart in both the US and Canada. With this album, Simpson actually got her first #1 album of her career. And it wasn't in the Pop category but Country. “I’m extremely touched by the overwhelmingly positive response to the album,” Jessica said of the chart. “There is so much honesty and raw emotion in there. And, I’m just thrilled that country fans are giving it a chance!”

As for what she's up to now, Jessica Simpson is kicking off a tour opening up for the Rascal Flatts on their "Bob That Head Tour." The tour starts in Kansas City and will consist of over 20 shows ending on March 14, 2009 in Irvine, California. But Jessica is not a one-trick pony, recently she's made some commercial inroads launching a line of hair and beauty products on the Home Shopping Network. Simpson also designs and markets a line of handbags and (primarily high-heeled) shoes and boots. She also plans to design lingerie including bras, panties, sleepwear and daywear. So, yeah we can say that music is just the tip of the iceberg. It's what is underneath that brings in the big bucks.

Alright, so it goes without saying that we're happy to bring Jessica's first single from her debut album "Sweet Kisses". "I Wanna Love You Forever" is her debut single and was released in 1999. This is one of Jessica Simpson signature songs, and one of her most successful single in the United States to date. Whatcha waiting for? Start singing.

Twilight’s “Tremble for my Beloved”

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

"Tremble for my Beloved" is Collective Soul's track that was originally included in the album "Dosage" back in 1999. However, the track was also recently included in the Twilight movie soundtrack as part of 12 featured songs. The movie soundtrack has put Collective Soul back on the map catapulting them to the number position. Recently, the band has re-released its 8th album, "Afterworlds". The album debuted at # 25 on the Billboard Comprehensive Albums Chart and # 5 on the Billboard Top Internet Albums Chart.

Rolling Stone referred to the members of Collective Soul as, "mellow Georgia boys that have never been anywhere near fashionable, but they have enjoyed a longer and more fruitful run than most of their flashier grunge-era." If you remember these are the guys that brought us some great hits such as December, Shine, Tremble for my Beloved, The World I know, Listen and Why.

At Red Karaoke, we're proud to announce the debut of Collective Soul's "Tremble for my Beloved". So what are you waiting for? Start bringing back those post-grunge/alternative rock memories!

Keyshia Cole’s “Playa Cardz Right” Debut

Monday, January 12th, 2009

Her most recent album "A Different Me" was released last month and the press as well as online critics have good things to say about Keyshia Cole's third album. There is an evolution in lyrics and style and it has so far captured good reviews. Andy Kellman of Allmusic gave the album four out of five stars, calling the album "Cole's most free-spirited and adventurous album to date", going on to say that there are "at least seven songs here that rate as highly as the best from the first two albums."

One of the most catchy singles from "A Different Me" Playa Cardz Right actually appeared on Tupac's Pac's Life, but in this instance it has been rearranged by Cole's producers Ron Fair and Carvin & Ivan. This track has so far fared well. In fact, at the time of the debut on December 16, 2008, it ranked as number two on the U.S. Billboard 200, selling over 322,000 copies in its first week. According to Billboard, Keyshia Cole's new release "A Different Me" is the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Album in the U.S. As for who influenced her music, Cole's success has earned her comparisons to the likes of Mary J. Blige and Brandy.

The 27 year old R&B singer-songwriter from the Bay Area has also been nominated for two Grammy Awards in the categories of Best R&B Song and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance with the song "Heaven Sent." So, at Red Karaoke we bring you the debut of "Playa Cardz Right" for you guys to have fun singing and sharing with friends and family.

Muse: SMBH Karaoke Debut

Friday, January 9th, 2009

So the alternative rock Brit band Muse has been making recently major inroads partly due to the selection of one of its tracks in the teen blocksbuter Twilight Soundtrack album. Although they do not enjoy the stardom and popularity of other bands from across the pond, Muse has won in the past five MTV Europe Music Awards, five Q Awards, four NMEs and two BRIT awards. So, yeah they are actually big in Europe

Muse is composed of Matthew Bellamy, Christopher Wolstenholme, Dominic Howard who came together as a band back in the early 90’s. So yeah these guys have actually been around for a while. Muse has so far put out 4 albums and is apparently working on a 5th one. On an on-air interview with the BBC’s 6music, Howard said, “We’re working on new stuff and we’re gonna have a couple of weeks off and then in about two weeks time we’re back out to Italy to start writing again”. He also added, “We’ve already done a few tracks and it sounds great, so we’re just working towards the future”.

But the album that has so far allowed to get the best bang for their buck in the U.S. was Black Holes & Revelations. The album was released officially in North America in 2006. Black Holes & Revelations charted at No. 1 in the UK, much of Europe, and Australia. As for the U.S. the album reached the No. 9 position in the Billboard 200 album chart.

So, here we bring you the karaoke debut of Supermassive Black Hole, the track included in the Soundtrack of the Twilight. For those of you who don’t remember this is the song used in the film’s baseball scene. BTW, we also have “Starlight” and “Time is Running Out” for you to give it a try. So get off your butt and grab the mic and start singing that the weekend goes by fast. Ciao.

Exclusive Linkin Park Karaokes

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

Linkin Park is one of those rock bands that rose to stardom at the turn of the century. Its peculiar and amazing style of mixing disimilar genres such as Rap and Metal catapulted them to fame. Although not necessarily the pioneers in this niche since other bands such as Anthrax and Red Hot Chili Peppers had also explored this uncharted territory. However, the differentiator for Linkin Park was that their lyrics were extremely sticky and easy to sing.

The initial success led the Linkin Park boys from Southern Cal to sell over 50 millions albums since 1996. Moreover, the band was the recipient of two Grammy Awards. One of their highly awarded album was "Hybrid Theory" that reached all time highs allowing the band to internationalize with world tours and overseas record sales.

"Meteora", their second album was actually even more popular than "Hybrid Theory." In fact during the first week of its release it sold over 800000 copies. For the first month, Linkin Park managed to sell over 3 million copies. In light of their success Linkin Park was invited by Metallica to participate in the 2003 Summer Sanitarium concert with Limp Bizkit, Mudvayne and Deftones.

Last year, the band released its most recent album entitled "Minutes to Midnight." A large number of fans were actually not too happy about the release because they perceived the band had gone too "comercial", and hence changing their original unique style. However, "Minutes to Midnight" has so far fared well. making the album's first single "What I've Done", debut at #1 on Billboard's Modern Rock chart.

So, yeah we've added Linkin Park most recent karaokes for you to sing and have fun. The debut list of Linkin Park karaokes includes:
