Annie Lennox Speaks Out About Gaza
Thursday, January 29th, 2009
In 1999 members of the rock industry and the VH1 show 100 Greatest Women of Rock and Roll selected Annie Lennox as "The Greatest White Soul Singer Alive". But that's not all, Rolling Stone magazine also named her as one of their 100 Greatest Singers of All Time. Both as a solo artist and with Eurythmics, Lennox has sold over 80 million records.
During the 80s, Annie Lennox focus went into making music. Apparently, when her children were born, she says, her priorities shifted. Now she devotes much of her time and energy to supporting different humanitarian causes. She says: “I need to find meaning in my life to make me happy; and that’s been an ongoing struggle.”
Nowadays, she's being politically acitve and involve in humanitarian work with UNICEF and the Treatment Action Campaign. Recently on her blog, she spoke out against the recent conflict in Gaza. “I am making a plea on behalf of innocent civilians. ALL innocent civilians on BOTH sides. Now that Israeli ground forces have entered Gaza, there is only one guarantee… ABSOLUTE CARNAGE.Those are definitely politically charged words.
As for current music work, "The Annie Lennox Collection" is the first greatest hits compilation by the singer-songwriter. The Greatest Hits album will be released on February 10, 2009. Among the newly recorded tracks are: "Shining Light", originally a single by Ash, and a cover of Keane's rare B-side "Closer Now", retitled "Pattern of My Life". The artwork was shot by rock singer Bryan Adams.

Electric Light Orchestra, a.k.a. as ELO is a Brit rock band that rose to the top during the golden age of rock back in the 70's and 80's. Similar to other big acts they were unable to keep themselves relevant and their popularity faded away into the 90's. However, they left us a great legacy familiar especially to those who listen to rock music from the 70's and 80's.
Not too bad for a rocker that has been around for about five decades. No kidding. I mean the dude has done it all. Musician, rock singer, songwriter the dude is all over the place. In fact, recently Alice Cooper released his 25th album entitled "Along Came a Spider" and so far it has been his highest charting album in his career. It wasn't until films such as Saturday Night Fever and Thank God It's Friday that disco's rose in mainstream popularity. The Bee Gees, the Jacksons and Donna Summer played a crucial role in pioneering the disco genre. But the disco era was more than music, it was a lifestyle for many. When we think of the disco era the first thing that come to mind is the disco ball, afros, Studio 54, quad roller skates and disco clothes such as leisure suits, funky disco shirts, disco men's platform shoes, polyester disco pants, etc. Those were the days!
Rumor has it that she's done her lips. That they are a lot juicier. Did she have a nose job? A breast reduction? Way too many rumors, some more credible than others but the fact remains that every time the 28 year old singer-actress is sighted by the paparazzi she makes the news.
