Keyshia Cole’s “Playa Cardz Right” Debut
Her most recent album "A Different Me" was released last month and the press as well as online critics have good things to say about Keyshia Cole's third album. There is an evolution in lyrics and style and it has so far captured good reviews. Andy Kellman of Allmusic gave the album four out of five stars, calling the album "Cole's most free-spirited and adventurous album to date", going on to say that there are "at least seven songs here that rate as highly as the best from the first two albums."
One of the most catchy singles from "A Different Me" Playa Cardz Right actually appeared on Tupac's Pac's Life, but in this instance it has been rearranged by Cole's producers Ron Fair and Carvin & Ivan. This track has so far fared well. In fact, at the time of the debut on December 16, 2008, it ranked as number two on the U.S. Billboard 200, selling over 322,000 copies in its first week. According to Billboard, Keyshia Cole's new release "A Different Me" is the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Album in the U.S. As for who influenced her music, Cole's success has earned her comparisons to the likes of Mary J. Blige and Brandy.
The 27 year old R&B singer-songwriter from the Bay Area has also been nominated for two Grammy Awards in the categories of Best R&B Song and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance with the song "Heaven Sent."
