Although they lost the the Album of the Year Award to Robert Plant & Alison Krauss at last Sunday's Grammy Awards, Radiohead’s ‘In Rainbows’ was awarded with ‘Best Alternative Album‘, beating albums by Beck, Death Cab For Cutie, Gnarls and My Morning Jacket. And there was another award for Radiohead. Art directors Stanley Donwood, Mel Maxwell & Christiaan Munro received a Grammy for Best Boxed Or Special Limited Edition Package for ‘In Rainbows’ discbox.
So as we said it here we knew it was gonna be a tough night for Radiohead. Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant took home five awards for his collaboration with bluegrass singer Alison Krauss. They had it going on for them. Overall, the Brits artists had an excellent night. Coldplay, Adele, Duffy, Radiohead and Peter Gabriel were among other UK stars to win Gramophone trophies at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
But the Brit quintet had a chance to show their wares to the world on stage. They played "15 Step" backed by the USC Marching Band. That was actually quite refreshing and different. Radiohead independently released their seventh album, "In Rainbows" (2007), originally as a digital download for which each customer could set their own price (kinda like pay-for-what-you like). But, I guess that innovative dose of online marketing wasn't enough for Grammy voters. That's ok. There's always a next time.
Alright, so if you're especially from Cali you must have listened to their music at some point in your life. Dude I am talking about getaway trips down to Baja, surf, fish tacos, Coronas, Margaritas whatever shakes your world. Yeah that's the life. And The Beach Boys are part of that fun-in-the-sun lifestyle. Since the early 60's the band has been cranking it up delighting generations of Americans and worldwide audiences. The group initially comprised singer-musician-composer Brian Wilson, his brothers, Carl and Dennis, their cousin Mike Love, and friend Al Jardine. This core quintet, along with early member David Marks and later bandmate Bruce Johnston, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 1988. Yeah that's how big they are.
But that's not it. According to Allmusic.com, the group has had thirty-six U.S. Top 40 hits (the most of any U.S. rock band) and fifty-six Hot 100 hits, including four number one singles. Rolling Stone magazine listed The Beach Boys as one of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. According to Billboard, in terms of singles and album sales, The Beach Boys are the No. 1 selling American band of all time.
As for legacy, in 2001, the group received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Brian Wilson was inducted into the UK Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in November 2006. And, in 2004, Rolling Stone Magazine ranked the Beach Boys #12 on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.

Hey you guys don't get me wrong, I dig Radiohead but dude the Grammys Album of the Year category is a tough one. Radiohead is facing tough competition from Coldplay, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, Lil Wayne, and Ne-Yo. Although Radiohead's seventh album "In Rainbows" is quite innovative and hip, the Brit alternative band is facing particularly the collaborative and masterful piece "Raising Sand", put together by Robert Plant & Alison Krauss. For the many, the latter one is the favorite to take the Grammy home next Sunday.
But, hey you never know, Grammy voters are unpredictable and anything can happen. But what I think is cool about Radiohead is what I read on Rolling Stone. Apparently, Radiohead independently released their seventh album, "In Rainbows" (2007), originally as a digital download for which each customer could set their own price (kinda like pay-for-what-you like) later in stores, to critical and chart success. So far, Radiohead have sold approximately 30 million albums as of 2008. This trailblazing move has definitely set them apart as the wizards of online marketing.
Regardless of what happens at the end, I am a fan of Radiohead and for that reason I wanted to hook you guys up with our large collection of Radiohead karaoke tracks. I am sure you guys are gonna get together with friends or family to watch the show. So if you are having a pre-telecast party and feel like singing to the music of Radiohead…this is it! Maybe the best be the winner. Nah, I am kidding. My little heart goes with Radiohead on this one. Catch you guys later!.
Ooh an btw, if you happen to disagree with me on this one…that’s cool with me. I have agreed to disagree. Having said that, We’d like to know who do you think should win the category of Album of the Year? Cast your vote here now! Have an epic everyone.

And if you are gonna get together with your friends for a pre-telecast Grammy party feel free to belt it to the music of your favorite recording artists. Here's a partial list of the nominees for the 2009 Grammy Awards:
"Swagga Like Us," (Jay-Z & T.I. Featuring Kanye West & Lil Wayne) D. Carter, S. Carter, Clifford Harris & Kanye West, songwriters (M. Arulpragasam, N. Headon, M. Jones, J. Mellor, T. Pentz & P. Simonon, songwriters)
Can you name a more eclectic singing artist than Van Morrison? The Belfast-born multifaceted artist is a Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, author, poet and multi-instrumentalist, whose musical trajectory dates back to the 1950s. Van Morrison plays a variety of instruments, including the guitar, harmonica, keyboards, drums, and saxophone. The man is the big kahuna.
Van Morrison style is a musical fusion of soul, jazz, blues, rhythm & blues, rock and roll, Celtic folk and pop balladry. Although his art is not as hyped up as other artists Van Morrison has managed to keep himself relevant for half a century. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 and has taken home the BRIT Award for Outstanding contribution to Music, 1994. In addition, Van Morrison was the recipient of the OBE award, by Queen Elizabeth II for his service to music in June 1996.
Rock music critic, Paul Williams included Van Morrison's"Brown Eyed Girl" in his book Rock and Roll: The 100 Best Singles, writing that: "I was going to say this is a song about sex, and it is, and a song about youth and growing up, and memory, and it's also — very much and very wonderfully - a song about singing."
Van Morrison's unique style has influenced artists worlwide. According to The Rolling Stone's Encyclopedia of Rock and Roll (Simon & Shuster, 2001), "his influence among rock singers/song writers is unrivaled by any living artist outside of that other prickly legend, Bob Dylan. Echoes of Morrison's rugged literateness and his gruff, feverish emotive vocals can be heard in latter day icons ranging from Bruce Springsteen to Elvis Costello". Even U2's Bono said, "I am in awe of a musician like Van Morrison. I had to stop listening to Van Morrison records about six months before we release "The Unforgettable Fire" because I didn't want his very original soul voice to overpower my own."
Back in 1986 two Swedes, Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle got together and formed the popular pop duo known as Roxette. The Swedes went ahead to take over the world, especially during the late 80's and 90's. Singles such as The Look, Listen To Your Heart, It Must Have Been Love and Joyride became US No. 1 singles and rose to the top of worlwide charts. It is estimated that Roxette sold an estimated 45 million albums and 25 million singles worldwide, with over 3.1 million albums sales in the United States, according to Billboard.
Shortly after the release of The Look in the US back in February 1989. Per and Marie crossed the big pond on route to the States. The band was welcomed by enthusiastic fans. “This is totally unbelievable, […] it’s like we were real rock stars,” said Marie. An official single of "The Look" was soon released and on March 29, 1989, it took the first place on the Billboard chart. But success in America continued for the band with other tracks such as "Dressed For Success” — which didn’t reach the #1 spot, though — and then with “Listen To Your Heart” and “It Must Have Been Love." Both peaked at #1.
On a recent radio interview with a Vancouver radio station, Gessleshared his feelings about working with Fredriksson again: "It was, in fact, wonderful, and emotional of course. But also … it took about an hour, and then we were back in the groove. It was the same jokes, the same… everything was like the same. So, even though time has gone by, it feels as if time has stood still for a bit so… It's not like it was before because, you know, Marie is somewhat a changed person because of all that she's gone through. But nevertheless, she still sings very well and, you know, it's just been a pleasure to be able to record these songs. If you had asked me like 2 years ago if this would ever happen, I would definitely would never believed it to have happened. I'm really pleased that we actually could do it."
At Red Karaoke, we have compiled a Roxette collection for you to sing and bring back those late 80's and early 90's Roxette pop memories. Drop us a line and let us know your thoughts or comments.
