RK Fave Five: Rihanna

Rihanna has yet another chart topping hit in her repertoire, which means Red Karaoke has the pleasure of adding her latest single What’s my name to our karaoke catalogue. We’re big fans of the Good girl gone bad, so we decided to take a look at our five favorite songs by Rihanna to karaoke to. Keep reading to see if your favorites are the same…

Unfaithful

First on our list of favorites from Rihanna is the second single from Rihanna’s second album, Unfaithful, which after the dance hit Pon de replay, showed the world a different side of Rihanna. Not only was the material more personal, the powerful ballad focused more on vocals, new ground for the rising singer. Driven by beautiful pianos and a orchestra, Unfaithful tells the story of a cheating partner who is slowly destroying her partner, as if she is a “murderer”. As one of Rihanna’s only mainstream ballads, its one of our favorites to sing here on Red Karaoke.

Umbrella

After the release of her third album, Good girl gone bad, Rihanna’s career shifted from rising star to queen of the pack with the mega success of her lead single Umbrella. The lead single not only spent weeks at number one, winning the Grammy for Rap/R&b collaboration as well as several other nominations, but also received dozens of accolades from magazines, fan polls and the music industry as a whole. Considered Rihanna’s signature song, Umbrella has been remixed officially by its producers five times and covered by dozens of artists, including a mash up with Singing in the rain on Glee.

Shut up and drive

Packing a bit more punch as a girl power theme than Umbrella was Rihanna’s second single from Good girl gone bad, Shut up and drive. Described as “goofy and sexually daring”, Shut up and drive won the People’s choice award for Most popular R&B song. We certainly think it’s a perfect choice for single ladies everywhere who want to show off their singing skills and just how much fun they are.

Disturbia

Last but certainly not least from Rihanna’s third album is Rihanna’s highest debut ever, her darkly toned Disturbia. Quick to become yet another dance hit for Rihanna, Disturbia boast lyrics about being frightened and a synthpop sound that gave chills. Rihanna took the reigns during the production of Disturbia, and now we get to enjoy trying to sing one of her hottest singles here on RK.

Only girl

And finally we come to our fifth favorite single to sing along with, Only girl. Once again Rihanna gives the ladies a much more vocally driven but just as fun to dance to single. Only girl had no trouble finding its way to the top of the charts, both the hot 100 and dance, and quickly into our new releases.
