How rankings work:

You are in the Help section > How rankings work

There are three main types of rankings in Red Karaoke: best debuts, most popular recordings and most valued singers (valued implies monetary value. People say, ‘most popular singers or perhaps most popular recording artist’ I like the latter one better because it massages the ego of the user/member). Each one is created in a different way and is subject to different regulations:

BEST DEBUTS

This ranking depends on the one for the most valued singers (below), but its aim is to boost the presence of new members in the page, so members can only appear if they registered less than 10 days ago. Once users have been in Red Karaoke for 10 days, they will exit the ranking.

To sum up, this list states the most highly valued singers amongst the ones who registered in the last ten days.

MOST POPULAR RECORDINGS

Recordings on Red Karaoke with 10 votes or more participate in this ranking. Recorded songs with less than 10 votes will not appear in the ranking of most popular recordings.

The following is the criteria utilized to get the average score of each recording:

- Vote tally: The larger the number of votes assigned to a recording, the better the chances for this song to rise to the top.

- Visits: The more visits a recording obtains, the better its position will be in the ranking.

- Timing of votes: The most recent votes attributed to a recording weigh more than previous ones.

- Weighted average of votes: A percentage of votes on the higher and lower ends of the voting range will be deleted from the final calculation. This means that the votes on the higher and lower end of the voting range do not impact the final outcome and positioning in the ranking.

In sum, the system calculates the average of votes and a score on every recording for songs with at least 10 votes. Based on this score, it ranks the most popular songs on top. The higher the score, the more chances for the recording to rise to the top of the ranking. In case of a tie, whereby the average scores are equal, the recordings with the most accumulated points will occupy a higher place in the rankings.

MOST VALUED SINGERS

It is the central ranking in Red Karaoke, which all the rest depend on. From this list, partial rankings per age, sex, country or a combination of them all can be obtained. For instance, we can get a list of all the male singers aged 20 and 29 that have been most highly valued in Red Karaoke.

Each user card states its position in the global ranking and the ranking of his/her country. Visit the Rankings page to see the positions of these partial rankings.

The ranking list is formed in accordance with the average scores obtained by each user by using a complex mathematical formula. This formula combines different elements that make both a positive and negative assessment (by either adding or deducting points) of their actions and their presence in Red Karaoke throughout time. The formula gives a result between 0 and 10, which is shown in each user card with two decimal numbers, and will be the number used to make the ranking. This number is the user’s average assessment in Red Karaoke.

In order to appear in the ranking the user must have at least two recordings with 3 or more votes (comments without a vote do not count). If they do not meet this requirement, they will not appear in the ranking.

Elements in the ranking have different levels of importance but are not made public in order to avoid any attempts of manipulation.

In any case, being an active web user (recording songs, voting for other users…), having a good average number of votes, not creating spam (as it will automatically deduct votes from the average score), following the vote regulations in Red Karaoke, getting fans and making people listen to recordings are some factors that will have an effect on the final result.

However, the ranking and the average assessment are dynamic elements that will change throughout time as the page evolves. The levels of importance of each element may vary, or some of them may be omitted or added to create the average score.

The aim will always be to offer a fair ranking adapted to all users.
It is important to note that the ranking is not automatically calculated in real time. The ranking and the average figure for each user is recalculated several times a day, so sometimes there may be slight differences between the average score and the ranking position. It adjusts itself every few hours.
