As is to be expected in any community with so many people, there may arise small (and sometimes large) problems as people attempt to get along with each other. This is normal, occurring in any community, and we should not be shocked about it.
In a city the normal thing is for everyone to know the laws and regulations in effect, and for everyone to be aware of the punishments people face if they break the law. And in addition to rules there are police and judges who apply the law strictly, professionally, with discretion.
At Red Karaoke things cannot be so very different from real life, since we have all kinds of people, as in any city: there are young people and old, women and men, couples and whole families, groups of friends, lone wolves, outgoing folks and folks who keep to themselves, gays and lesbians, Moslems, Christians, atheist, tall, short, fat and thin, white, black and in between. There are people from all over the world, who do not even speak the same language! And each day there will be more people, more and more diverse, and it will take greater effort to understand each other and get along.
This is why some clear rules for getting along with others are necessary, and so is a police force to monitor and judge their observance.
We should first of all clarify who will make up this police force, and whom we should turn to if a problem arises: the founders and administrators will no longer respond in private with their personal e-mail accounts concerning problems, requests or technical matters. Henceforth all problems are to be processed by two new anonymous and ordinary users:
WHO TO TURN TO IF A PROBLEM ARISES
- For technical problems, you should write a private message to the user called "Webmaster".
- To report inappropriate comments or messages or any other problem involving other users, you should write a private message to the user called "Administrator".
RULES FOR GETTING ALONG
The fundamental rule for getting along with others can be summed up in one statement: Respect other members of the network, and treat them as you would like to be treated. If all of us upheld this standard there would be no need for any other rules, but unfortunately it is necessary to spell them out.
Rules are concerned with two areas, private messages (between users) and public messages and texts (that can be read by all the other users of Red Karaoke: chat, blog, recordings, notices, profiles, etc.).
1. Rules concerning private messages
Private messages are not subject to the control of the Administration of Red Karaoke. These messages are private between users and should not under any circumstances be made public in any part of the network. If a user makes public a private message by another user he will be punished by the Administration of the network.
If a user receives a private message that is insulting or provocative, the Administration of Red Karaoke can do nothing about it. However, it is appropriate to info rm the Administrator that there are users sending these kinds of messages, because in the face of an accumulation of reports about the same user, the Administration would be able to take measures.
Therefore, if insulting messages are received the recommendation is to:
a.) Report it to the Administrator
b.) Do NOT respond to these messages, and use the tool "Ignore user" (accessible on the menu in the section "My Karaoke" so you will not receive any more messages in the future from the member who sent the message).
Always remember that there is no greater disregard than not paying attention. To not respond to provocations is the only way to keep the peace and to avoid being punished.
2. Rules for all public messages
These standards apply to all public messages created by user members of Red Karaoke, including chat, blog, notices, profiles, comments, recordings, etc.
Red Karaoke does not allow messages that have illegal or pornographic content or that incite any kind of violence. But it will also not accept messages with insults, accusations, expressions of disrespect or provocations directed at any other member of Red Karaoke. There are many ways to insult someone else without resorting to the blunt instrument of offensive language: these indirect forms of contempt towards other users are also not acceptable on Red Karaoke, and should be reported immediately to the Administrator, just the same as any other messages that break the rules.
Messages of this sort, of whatever category (chat, comments, recordings, etc.) will be deleted by the Administration as soon as they are reported, and their authors will be penalized.
This rule is applicable in all cases, regardless of who started it. If two or more users get mixed up in a public brawl and there are inappropriate messages by all of them, all will be penalized without consideration for who started it.
The proper way to defend oneself against an insult or provocation is to report the offender to the Administrators, and never to take the law into one's own hands.
Furthermore, it should be borne in mind that on this network there are minors, for which reason any messages using obscenities are liable for deletion.
When you are going to publish a text on Red Karaoke, whether it is a comment, or a message in the blog or in a chat, write it clearly and legibly, without making improper use of abbreviations and without using shortened words: Red Karaoke is not a cell phone, so try to write properly out of respect for other users. The Administration of the site reserves the right to delete any messages that it considers unintelligible.
3. Rules for Voting
It is important to remember that there are rules concerning how to vote for songs on Red Karaoke. Users who fail to comply with these rules are also liable to be penalized by the Administration.
4. False or phantom users
Taking advantage of the anonymity of the Internet, some users may be tempted to create false users in order to vote for themselves, take their side in arguments in chats, or to attack other members of Red Karaoke, among other things.
For the Administration it is very easy to detect this sort of conduct, which may lead to serious punishment on Red Karaoke not only for the phantom user but also for any other users associated with the same PC.
The use of chatrooms to pass oneself off as Administrator of the Red Karaoke is a grave offence that must be reported to the network administration. This sort of behaviour will lead to serious punishment that may include the elimination of one's account.
5. Rules for recordings
There is a fundamental rule concerning recordings on Red Karaoke: the music that should be used for recordings must be that of the karaoke file selected for singing, unless the singing is a capella (that is to say, unaccompanied). It is expressly forbidden to use any system of musical reproduction for MP3 recordings other than the original music of the file selected for singing.
Any recordings that do not comply with this rule will be immediately deleted.
It is important to remember that any recordings made over karaoke files that do not have lyrics will also be deleted, since karaoke files without lyrics are not allowed on this website.
6. Penalty types
Penalties to be imposed will always be at the discretion of the Administration of Red Karaoke, based on the offence committed, the prior conduct of the user (such as recurrent behaviour), etc...
Penalties may be of various kinds, and may also be combined, as follows:
- Temporary Banishment, from one day to one year: this means that the user will be able to access Red Karaoke, but will not be able to perform a series of actions such as publishing messages in a chatroom or voting and making comments to other users.
- Indefinite Banishment: the same as above, but with no set end date.
- Banishment by IP: this type of penalty is the most serious, and means that the web connection from the user's PC is forbidden, regardless of who the user may be who is actually using it.
- Removal from rankings: a penalty which consists of the member's removal from the rankings of Red Karaoke, so that points won previously, or any points that may be won during the penalty will have no value. This may be a temporary or permanent penalty.
- Deduction of points: points are taken away from the user who is being penalized, both in the total score as well as in numbers affecting averages, and therefore, one's position in the rankings. For example, any votes that the user may have received with a value of 9 or 10 will be counted as a 7 or an 8. This penalty applies to the points that the user has at any given moment, and will be permanent, without the possibility of reversal. This penalty does not affect points received subsequently.
- Deletion of recordings: this consists of the deletion of one, several or even all of the recordings of a user member, with all his comments and related points.
7. Right of Appeal
Users who feel that a decision by the Administration is not favourable to them for some reason, or that it is unfair or does not adhere to the rules, may communicate this to the Administrators via e-mail to their e-mail account. In the message they should state the reasons that they consider the decision to be unfair, and the Administrators will review their case and give a reasoned response, upholding or altering their decision (for better or worse). This appeal can only be made by affected parties and people directly involved in the matter in question, with participation by any other user being unacceptable. The Administration is not obliged to provide explanations or info rmation to third parties regarding the punishment or its decisions, whether they are involved or not.
The Administration of Red Karaoke reserves the right to modify these rules as may become necessary to adapt to needs and circumstances as they arise, and reserves the right to create new kinds of penalties if it deems it necessary to do so, always for the purpose of improving the harmony of the community and maintaining a favourable climate on Red Karaoke.
