There are a number of ways
to make duets over distance:

You are on: Red Karaoke > Help > Make duets over distance

What will we need?

- Windows XP. The 95, 98 and Me versions are also acceptable.

Let's take it one step at a time:

Once you decide what song you are going to sing as a duet, it would be appropriate for you to seek permission from the person who sang it whose version you wish to record. Listen to it a number of times so you can determine at what level you wish to record your voice.
To do this, play the song back from Red Karaoke, pick up your mike and sing along (without recording) the duet you have chosen as a test to figure out the mike levels.

Go to “Windows Audio Control.” Then open it up...

In the playback mode select Microphone and regulate the volume of your mike to the desired level. Make an effort not to trample on the “original” singer, while trying at the same time to be heard yourself.

Let's return to Windows Audio Control but this time in Record mode. Let's make sure that “What You Hear” is selected (in other cards it may appear as “Master,” “General Audio,” and so on).
Let's regulate the recording level, somewhere between 70% or 80 % should be all right, any more could saturate it.

Now we are all set to record whatever we want.

- Go to the Start / Programs / Accessories / Entertainment / Audio Recording:

- You can see right away that the Windows Audio Recorder is starting (see screen shot)

- Let's go back to the personal page of the Red Karaoke singer with whom we want to perform a duet.

- Let's prepare our mikes and adjust the recording and playback levels.

- Hit Record (the REC button) on the Windows audio recorder.

- Hit Listen to the Recording of the singer chosen for the duet.

- And start singing with him or her.

When we're done, we stop the recording on the Windows audio recorder and decide where to save the recording.

To do this we go to “File” and “Save as…,” select the folder, and we're done.

Now we have the duet on our PC. How do we upload it onto Red Karaoke?

- Look for the midi of the original song in the Red Karaoke database.

- When you find it, get ready to record it like any other song, BUT…

- First open the Windows Audio Control and make sure, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT, that you turn off MIDI playback and recording. It also does no harm to turn off the microphone. Just set the levels at zero.

- In Recording, make sure that “What You Hear” is selected.

- Make sure that "Wave/mp3" playback is selected, because that is going to be our own “personal microphone".

For this dialog box, if you have any questions, it would be best to have a look at the photos from the tutorial How to Get Quality Results.

- Now we can record the duet on Red Karaoke simply by selecting the option "Record Song" from Red Karaoke and PLAYING BACK THE DUET FROM YOUR WINDOWS AUDIO PLAYER, which can be Windows Media, winamp, or whatever … that's how easy it is!!!

- Once you've finished recording, it's the same as all the others … just hit ‘Save Song” and you're all done, and your Distance Duet is ready to be heard all over the world!!!
