RULES FOR VOTING:

You are on: Red Karaoke > Help > Rules for voting

1. The score points are there to be used. All of them. And that goes from 1 to 10 with everything in between. So it won't do to only vote 10 or 9. If in your own opinion someone deserves a 4 or a 6, that is the vote you should give them.

2. To always give the same score to everyone, whether it is a 4 or a 10, is deeply unfair to the people who receive these scores, because not everyone sings the same, so this gives rise to unfair treatment.

3. All of us can vote. You do not have to be an expert to be able to vote. Just as you do not have to be a professional expert on wine to judge a good wine, and you do not have to be a film director to criticize a movie, you do not have to be a professional singer or musician to evaluate a song. The fact that someone may sing badly (or even not sing at all and only come to Red Karaoke to listen to others) has absolutely no bearing on how he or she may vote.

The important thing is to vote sincerely and honestly, offering constructive criticism in good faith. And if in spite of this the person receiving the comment gets upset, simply do not vote or comment on their recordings again, case closed, because there are plenty of other people to listen to. The people who get upset about a low score or because they received some constructive and thoughtful criticism do not deserve to be heard or voted on.

4. Anyone recording a song on Red Karaoke should know how to accept low scores and negative (constructive) criticism. If people are not able to take criticism, it is best for them not to record any more songs. The people who get angry because they do not always score a 10 do not deserve to be heard or voted on at all, because there is always room for improvement, and nobody is perfect.

5. Anyone who gives a score of 10 to everyone will be considered a spammer. They will receive a warning from the Administrators and, if they keep voting the same way, will be penalized with a loss of points (both points received and points given to others) and with removal from the rankings.

To give everyone a 10 is only playing the game of people who think of nothing else but scores and rankings. And it means that the great majority, those who are interested in getting sincere appraisals and in improving (because that is what the points are for) have their expectations thwarted.

STANDARDS FOR VOTING ON Red Karaoke

Obviously each member of Red Karaoke has their own standards for deciding whether they like a song or not, and their own standards when it comes to voting and commenting. Some will have more educated and technical standards while others base their assessment more on feelings, but all standards are equally valid, and all votes and comments should be accepted in the same way (unless they are insulting or malicious, in which case the Administrators must be notified).

When it comes to voting, there are many factors that can be taken into account (vocal quality, technical quality, timbre, phrasing, mistakes made, creativity, adaptation of the song to the singer's own range, sound quality, performance, and so on), but everyone should try as far as possible to avoid plugging their friends and being overly nice: to give someone a 10 because he is a friend will not help him to improve. If he is a good friend, there is no question he would rather have some good criticism.

We should not forget that votes have two purposes: first, in order that everyone can improve their low scores and learn, and second, so that others can discover what to pay particular attention to when listening to new recordings.

When voting, it is important to bear in mind what the scores you are awarding actually mean.

The general meaning of the scores is as follows :

10. Stairway to the Stars: the recording is perfect and outstanding in every possible way and cannot be improved. Very few recordings are worthy of such a score.

From 8 to 9: Excellent. A very good recording, outstanding in almost all respects, altogether commendable.

From 6 to 7: Good. A good recording with many favourable points, highly commendable.

5: Passing: the recording is all right, it is correctly made and pleasant to listen to, though it is not really all that striking, and may even have some small errors.

From 3 to 4: Poor. The recording has problems or there are major defects with the singing that make it not very pleasing to hear.

From 1 to 2: Very poor. The recording is very hard to listen to, or there are very serious defects that make it unpleasant to hear.
