In this page you can find explanations for everything having to do with the Red Karaoke ranking, how they are formed, and what criteria is necessary when assigning ratings to each recording and each user. We will respond to the most common questions regarding these topics:
WHAT ARE THE RED KARAOKE RANKINGS?
The Red Karaoke rankings are a series of lists in which we try to reflect the activity of the site´s user community. These lists aim to generate healthy competition, converting participation within our site into a fun game. Furthermore, the rankings promote the discovery of new users, new voices, new talent and rewards not only singers with the best vocal technique, but also those who stand out for their popularity between the other members of the site.
For that reason we have two fundamental methods of rating, one generated automatically by the RKBot which measures vocal technique, and another based on popularity. Each system generates a ranking of the highest rated recordings and a ranking of singers.
The calculation of the ranking only takes into account the recordings of the last 60 days. All of the recordings older than 60 days will include its rating in its record, though this will have no influence on the calculation of the ranking of users nor appear in the ranking of recordings.
The ranking system allows division particular to age, gender, country or combinations of these options. For example, a list of the highest rated male singers between 20 and 29 years of age on Red Karaoke can be obtained.
A user´s position in the global ranking, the country ranking and the RKBot ranking will be included in each user´s record. In order to see positions within rankings based on particular stats, you must use the Rankings page.
WHAT IS THE RKBOT AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
RKBot is the analyzing robot software of Red Karaoke. It is an informational program that automatically analyzes each recording in order to assign it a score between 1 and 10. In order to give this scare, RKBot analyzes the ability as well as the expressiveness of the singer. This rating is assigned the moment a recording is saved on Red Karaoke.
RKBot is an exact system that deals solely with the vocal technique of a singer. But to have good vocal technique is not the only thing necessary in order to be considered a great singer. For this reason a low score from the RKBot does not mean a bad singer: many professional and successful singers would probably receive a low score from the RKBot.
HOW ARE THE RKBOT RANKINGS FORMED?
RKbot is an automatic system (an informational program) that measures the ability and expressiveness of recordings. When a user makes a recording, RKBot will rate it between 1 and 10, it gives a rating for each of the two concepts and creates an average. The score generated by the RKBot will be shown in the record of the recording, and will be used in order to create the two rankings of RKBot, one ranking of recordings and one ranking of users.
The RKBot ranking of recordings will take into account recordings made in the last 60 days and will be order from highest to lowest score.
The RKBot ranking of users will be calculated from the average of scores given by the RKBot to the recording made by the user in the last 60 days. In order to be included in this ranking you must have a minimum of 2 recording that accept ratings.
Remember that RKBot is an exact system that deals solely with the vocal technique of a singer. But to have good vocal technique is not the only thing necessary in order to be considered a great singer. For this reason a low score from the RKBot does not mean a bad singer: many professional and successful singers would probably receive a low score from the RKBot.
HOW ARE THE POPULAR RANKINGS FORMED?
Red Karaoke has a popular ranking of recordings and a popular ranking of users. These ranking, contrary to those of the RKBot, measure the popularity of recordings and users in the community based on an established series of criteria that are equal for all members of Red Karaoke.
These rankings are calculate according to the following rules.
• Only the recordings from the last 60 days that accept votes will be taken into account.
• A percentage of the rating total will correspond with the scores assigned by the RKBot.
Apart from these common factors, each ranking will function in a different manner and have its own rules, which are the following:
A. RANKING OF MOST POPULAR RECORDINGS
This ranking will include all recordings of Red Karaoke that have obtained at least 10 votes and have been recorded in the last 60 days.
The criteria used to obtain the average scored of each recording are as follows:
• RKBot score. The better the rating of the RKBot, the better chance of having a higher global rating. This score weighs a % of the total rating.
• User votes. The better the rating from user votes, the better chance of having a higher global rating.
• Total votes: The more votes a recording has, the better its position will be.
• Views: The more views a recording has, the better its position will be.
• Average weight of votes: A percentage of eliminated votes will be applied in the calculation. This means that a percentage of the highest votes and a percentage of the lowest votes will not be taken into account when calculating the final rating.
The system will take all of this data into account when calculating the average score of recordings from the last 60 days that have received at least 10 votes, and will create a list of the most popular recordings from this score: the higher this score is, the higher the recording will appear on the list. In the case of a tie, or when the average of points is equal, the recording with the most accumulated total points will appear higher.
B. RANKING OF THE MOST POPULAR USERS
This ranking will include the users considered most popular according to an established series of criteria that are equal for all members of Red Karaoke.
The ranking of the most popular users will be formed from the average rating obtained by each user by means of a complex mathematical formula, in which the central basis is the average popularity score of recordings. This formula combines distinct elements that count, both positively and negatively (that is to say, adding or subtracting points), your actions and your presence within Red Karaoke in the last 60 days. The formula gives as a result a number between 0 and 10 which will be shown in the record of each user with two decimals, and will be the number from which the ranking will be formed. This number is the average rating of a user on Red Karaoke.
In order to appear in the user ranking you must have at least two recordings with three or more votes each (comments without votes do not count). If this condition is not met the user will not be included in the ranking. Only recordings from the last 60 days will be taken into account, that is to say, if a user does not have 3 recordings that complete these criteria within the 60 days, they will automatically disappear from the rankings of most popular users of Red Karaoke.
The elements that make up the ranking are weighted differently; however they are not made public in order to avoid possible attempts at manipulation. It is important to note that RKBot is a fundamental part of the popular ranking of Red Karaoke and makes up a high percentage of the final rating.
In any case, to be an active user within the site (record song, vote for other users…), to have a good average of votes, to not create spam (because this will subtract votes automatically from the average), to follow the voting rules of Red Karaoke, to gain fans and have people view your recordings, are some of the elements that will influence the final result.
However, the ranking and the average rating are lively elements and will go on changing the majority of the time according to the evolution of the site. Changes in the weight of each element including removal or inclusion of new elements in order to for the average rating are possible.
The objective will always be to offer a ranking that is as fair as possible and open to everybody.
It is important to remember that the ranking is not calculated automatically in real time. The ranking and the average rating of each user are recalculated various times throughout the day, and at times can create variances between the average rating and the position in the ranking. This is something that is solved with the passing of several hours.
WHY DO THE RANKINGS ONLY TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE LAST 60 DAYS?
The objective of this method is to constantly maintain current rankings and to give newer users within the community the opportunity to appear on the main page´s listing. We understand that if a member has not recorded in the last 60 days, they are probably no longer interested in appearing in the rankings of Red Karaoke. In this way, we believe the rankings will be more dynamic and above all fairer to the newer members of the community.
WHY HASN´T MY AVERAGE RATING OR MY POSITION IN THE RANKING BEEN UPDATED?
The different rankings of Red Karaoke are not calculate automatically in real time. The reason for this is that millions of complex mathematical operations are occurring at once and to update in real time would create many maintenance problems for the site.
For this reason, the rankings and the average rating of each user are recalculate various times throughout the day, which can create small variances between the average rating and the positions in the rankings, including possible delay of a user´s presence in the ranking once they have completed the minimum requirements in order to participate. It is something that will be resolved after a few hours, and always less than 24 hours.
